Brie heard the ringer, announcing that someone was at her door. "Hold on, I'm coming," she called, assuming that it was another box of clothes from Boleman. She ran to the door and opened it. "Colonel," Brie said, glancing down at the dress that she hadn't yet changed out of. "I wasn't expecting you. Please, come in." She glanced at the dress again, feeling extremely self conscious. "Boleman sent me over a whole bunch of his ex-wife's old clothes, I feel like it's my nova-yahren or something."
"Is this a good time?" Charybdis asked. "I thought I heard voices."
"Oh, I was just talking to myself," Brie said. "Old habits are hard to break and you know me......or at least you used to. I'm sorry, that was completely uncalled for. So, um, what can I do for you? Is there any news about Amy?"

"You look...beaut...I mean, you look nice." I stammered a bit. It was funny, we had known each other for yahrens, but for some reason, now it was like we were starting all over again.
Brie looked down at the dress, "Thanks." she smoothed out some of the material with her hands.
I thought about the question she had asked about Amy. "Um, no word yet on Amy. I just passed by the med lab and she's still in surgery. To tell you the truth, I'm trying not to focus on that right now."
Brie looked a bit stunned by that. "Why?" she asked. "I would think that you would be going out of your mind right now, knowing what's happening in there."
I turned away. "It IS because of what's happening in there. Brie, they're killing our baby. How would you react if your child was taken away from you?"

"What I would feel or how I would react is totally inconsequential," Brie said, her heart aching because it was her grandchild that they were talking about. "It's your feelings and Amy's that matter, and Charybdis, I can't even begin to express my sympathy for this situation. But from what the doctors have said, the child never had a chance of making it. It's Amy's life that they're trying to save. For all intents and purposes, your baby died in Cylon hands on that baseship. In a strange way, though, it saved Amy's life. If they hadn't discovered that she was pregnant, the Cylons just would have killed her."
Brie motioned for Charybdis to take a seat, and she sat as well. As she crossed her legs she became intensely aware at how much of her legs were showing. She would definitely think twice before letting Justin see her in that dress! "You said that you're trying not to focus on Amy, and I respect that." She paused for a micron. "I'm assuming that you got my message."
Charybdis nodded. "It was a bit cryptic."
"I've been doing a lot of thinking lately, reevaluating my life," Brie started. "I had always been taught that it was my destiny to die in battle with the Cylons, but just recently I've realized that just maybe I can do a little bit of living before that actually happens. I'm making some changes, trying to lower my defenses a little bit, I'm even having dinner soon with Justin. I started thinking about you and me, how far back we go, and it dawned on me that Turner would be furious with both of us for letting all this other felgercarb get in the way of what is supposed to be a lifelong friendship. I'm sorry that I've let it slide. I also took some of my frustrations out on you, and I apologize for that as well. But I'm not the only one who could have tried harder. When I was in the brig you could have been a little more supportive."

I thought back to that time. What a mess! I nodded my head. "I know. You're right. I should have been there. I know you don't want to hear excuses about what I was doing or what was going on in my life so I'll spare you. Look, Brie. I may not always show it, but...I always seem to know that you'll be there. You always have. I guess I've taken that...you, for granted. And I"m sorry. I hope you can forgive me..."

"And I'm sorry. I hope you can forgive me..."
Brie grinned. "I'll think about it. Maybe, with time..." She was relieved that Charybdis hadn't mentioned Justin, maybe she had been talking fast enough that he hadn't heard her tell him about the upcoming date. "I said before, we're both at fault here. To be honest, since you and Amy first hooked up I've been a little bit jealous." She paused, realizing the possible implications. "Not a romantic type of jealousy, of course, I mean, the idea of you and me..." she stifled a laugh. "Not if we were the last two humans alive." She shook her head. "But I miss the way things used to be. When we felt like we could depend on each other for almost anything, in any situation. I guess our talking now is the first step towards getting that back." She paused. "Did you know that I finally found out what really happened to Turner?"

Back from the patrol and just out of decontamination, I desperately needed a shower. I pulled of my warrior uniform and set it aside. I went in to the turbo wash and stayed there for about fifteen centons. After getting out and getting dry, I tried my dinner outfit. It fitted nicely, but what made it nice was the shirt was a crimson red with black pants and dinner jacket. It felt weird wearing something else but my warriors uniform. Taking in off and replacing it with a fresh uniform, I then went over to my desk. Hitting a few buttons I contacted the Manager of one of the restaurants aboard the Starliner Alpha.
"Manager Zek, how can I help you?" he asked.
"Major JustinB from the Battlestar Callisto. I would like to reserve a suite for two for dinner? I would like something that has a view and i don't mean one that has a disposal ship in sight."
"Yes Major, I have just the suite for you and your guest. Will you be needing accommodation at all for you and your guest?"
No way, I mean no we will be returning to the Callisto. One other thing, the more private the dinner is the more cubits will come your way, if you get my drift."
"Ah yes I do Major. Rest assured, as far as I know the room will be closed due to say, crawlon infestation. Forty cubits will get you a nice meal for two, fifty will get you a better meal with a nice thirty year old bottle of Ambrosia."
"Fifty it is then. See you Soon." I cut off the connection and looked at my desk. Nothing much was going on right now. Half the Squadron was on patrol and the the rest was resting. I thought to myself for abit about the upcoming date with Brie. I wondered if she was as nervous as I was. Time would only tell. I decided to head to the bridge to see how the basestar mission was going.

"Did you know that I finally found out what really happened to Turner?" I shook my head. "I heard a lot of wild things, Brie. I've been a bit distracted lately what with all that's going on. But the main one was that he was somehow involved in this plot by Pierce. But I'm not sure how it all fit together."

"Pierce had him killed. Turns out I was right all along, although at the time, I didn't know it was Pierce who was behind everything. And everyone believed that I was crazy..." Brie sighed. "Somehow he figured out that it was Turner who had stopped the President's assassination. Trula, who was the Galactica's head chef at the time and ironically my future protector's wife, whipped up a bad batch of bovine stew. I guess since Turner was a vegetarian like I am they knew he wouldn't eat any of it. Pretty much the whole squadron became sick, so Turner and Ensign Cal were assigned to the scheduled patrol. The vipers had been rigged. Pierce himself told me about this, gloating the whole time." Brie took a deep breath before continuing. "The rest is information that was found on the Pylos' computer. The Cylons picked up both Turner and Cal’s escape pods. Turner died a couple of centars later, according to the report he muttered my name a couple of times but that was about it. Cal wasn’t injured as badly, so he was tortured and then murdered. And according to another report from the Pylos, after Turner died they took a sample of his blood and then incinerated his body. They think that the Cylons were doing cloning experiments. Turner’s sample was next on the list to be used when I found the Pylos.” Brie half grinned. “If they do use that sample, I hope they make a thousand copies of him, and they all have his temperament. THAT would be the end of the Cylon empire.”

Brie noticed that she had a message. "Excuse me just one micron." She felt as if her heart had stopped when she realized that it was from the med lab, but was relieved when she discovered that it wasn't about Amy.
Major Brie,
Lieutenant Artus has passed his physical examinations. If he fairs as well on his psychological exam he'll be medically ready to return to active duty. Then he's your problem.
Lieutenant Lena Medtech
“One more micron,” Brie said to Charybdis. She jotted down a quick reply and sent it. She then looked back at Charybdis. “Anything new of the baseship mission?”
“We’re still waiting for word,” Charybdis replied. “We should hear something soon.”
“I kind of want to be there when that happens,” Brie said. She stood up and motioned towards the door. “I’m glad we cleared things up. I’ll see you in a few centons.”
After Charybdis left Brie returned to her bedchamber. She took one last look at herself in that dress, changed into a clean uniform, then left for the bridge.

My meeting ended sort of abruptly once Brie received that message. I wondered what it was. And it was sort of a small miracle that Brie actually wanted to be on the bridge. She had made no efforts to hide her disdain of the place, considering retirement to being assigned the 'bridge blues.'
But, with so many on the mission and her squadron involved right in the middle of it, I didn't blame her. In fact, I pretty much expected it.
No news from Amy in Med Lab so I decided to return the bridge as well. I hoped the news wouldn't be bad coming from the Cylon baseship...
