Rose nodded slightly as she headed out with Hawke to go down to the O'Club. She wondered why all of a sudden Hawke seemed a bit distant with her, for she had picked up on the fact that he didn't hug her in return before they headed out of his office. Rose thought she had given Hawke the perfect opportunity to kiss her once more, but for some reason he didn't do that either. One thing was for sure, once she got him alone again, Rose was going to see what she could find out from Hawke in what was going on with him.
"Who did you promise that you wouldn't drink grog anymore?," Rose asks softly as they continued walking down the corridor.

"Who did you promise that you wouldn't drink grog anymore?" Rose asked. i listened to the tapping of my cane on the floor as I walked. I knew as soon as I said, about the promise, I shouldn't have. Now I'd have to explain it all again. I sighed... "After... the.... strokes..... I.... became.... depressed.... and......became a drunk.... I.... almost got.... thrown in..... the.... brig a...... couple.... of... times because of it....It's something..... I was.... not proud.... of. On the..... condition of.... me becoming..... her aide, I.... promised.... Brie.... no.... more... drinking."

Rose nodded slightly as she patiently listened to Hawke explain the promise he had made about not drinking grog any more. She had heard rumors about Hawke drinking some, but wasn't sure if the rumors were true. Now she knew for sure about what had been said about Hawke drinking and getting into some trouble. Rose smiled slightly as she looked over at Hawke as they continued walking down the corridor towards the O'Club. "Then I guess we will have to figure out something else to drink then once we get down to the O'Club won't we," Rose softly says.

I nod quietly. We go for a little bit as I listen to the tapping of the cane on the deckplates. There was a time I could hear the speed of the engines anywhere on the ship. These days I can barely concentrate on my duties. "Cubit for your thoughts" Rose says. "Oh, I... was... just.... thinking about..... how I could..... hear... the... speed of.... the engines.... anywhere on..... the ship. Now..... I can.... barely.... concentrate..... on my.... duties." We arrive at the O'Club. There is the usual activity of Pyramid & gossip. I order myself some Java Juice & order Rose a Grog. We sit down at an empty table in a quiet corner.

Rose scooted her chair closer to Hawke once their drink order had been placed. She wanted to sit closer to him so that they could talk and not have to raise their voices to much and so it wouldn't be as obvious that Hawke had trouble at times talking, even though many probably already knew to some extent. It wasn't long before the waiter came back with their drinks and Rose thanked him as he sat the drinks down on the table for them before heading off to another table to see who else needed drinks.
Rose slowly drank her drink as she looked aroun the O'Club a little to see who all was there and think a little at the same time. After looking around a little, Rose looked over at Hawke and noticed that he seemed lost in thought himself. Sitting her drink aside for the moment so she wouldn't knock it over, Rose reached over and took one of Hawke's hands into her hands and lightly ran her fingers over the back of his hand. "Cubit for your thoughts?," Rose asks once more.

*Walking into the club* Shannon felt a little strange walking into the Officers club, since she was technically not yet an officer, but she was fast tracked for it. Having already been given a pass on the academy, and showing her talent in small glimpses had given those who make such decisions, the reasons they needed to feel comfortable about her fast track career. She knew that her SRB would be reason enough for many long term officers, especially those of moderate to poor performance reviews, to dislike her. She would be accused of knee padding her way up, which was absurd, she had never been kissed yet, much less done more than that. Others would blame her looks, which she admitted reluctantly were above average. Still others would cry foul blaiming her family name. That would be absurd though, since Shannon herself, didnt know more about her mother other than her name. She had never seen her mother, never had any information about her. She swallowed, feeling thristy after the really tough simulator session, and the trip to the firing range. Uuugh, she thought, theres anhour of my life I want back! She walked up to the crystal covered counter that served as a bar top. The officer on duty serving as tender looked her over and turned away, deciding that she was far too young to drink. Shannon didnt know why he did so, but felt fustrated that she was being snubbed already, and she had not even taken a seat yet. She looked over at the dozens of photographs that lined the wall behind the bar. They were all of Warriors that had fallen in combat since the sneak attack. There had to be dozens, maybe a hundred or more. She looked them over in reverence, feeling so terribly unworthy. The one near the middle, just above some old looking photos caught her eye. It looked like her, yet older. Same smile, same hair, same face. She stood on her toes, trying to see it closer. Was that her mom? She sat on a stool and looked around, wondering, for the first time, where did my mom sit? Did she know any of these people?

"Cubit for your thoughts?," Rose asks once more. I was about to answer when I looked up and saw an Ensign come in. An Ensign? In here? I look at her squadron patch. Gold!! Ahhhh... A new recruit. I had heard that Gold was getting an influx of new recruits but I hadn't had an opportunity to meet any of them yet. Rose looks where I'm staring. "Excuse me....for....a....sec..." I say and quickly kiss her on the cheek. I grab my cane & slide out of the booth we were in. I make my way to the bar where the new Ensign is. "Ensign.." She looks at me and stands up and snaps to attention & salutes. "At...ease..before...you....break...something..." She gives a chuckle and resumes what she was doing. "I'm...Captain Hawke...Major Brie's... aide..." I extend my hand. She shakes it. "Ensign Shannon Ratliff. Wraith." "Wraith...huh?...We...already.... have...a....Wraith.....in....the..... squadron.... How....about... a new callsign?" She looks at me inquizitively. I think for a micron and suggest "How...about....Jaguar?"

Rose let out a soft sigh as she watched Hawke slide out of the booth they were sitting in and then head over towards the bar where an Ensign was currently standing and appeared to be looking over the photos behind the bar with great interest. She still wondered why Hawke seemed a bit withdrawn from her since she walked into his office earlier.
Rose continued to drink some of the drink she had gotten earlier as she watched Hawke over at the bar talking to the new Ensign it appeared and in Gold Squadron at that. She wondered if there had been any new ones assigned to Black Squadron. Only way for her to find out is when she got back to the barracks later on to see if there had been any changes.
Rose looked back up to where Hawke was still talking with the new Ensign from Gold Squadron. "Guess I'm gonna have to get used to being left alone like this at times if your going to run off every time you spot a new member of the Squadron," Rose softly says to herself. After a couple more microns, Rose looks away and starts looking around the rest of the O'Club to see if she spotted anyone else that she wasn't familiar with that could easily be a new recruite.

"My father told me that my mothers call sign was Angel." Shannon again barely spoke the name Angel, it was like a mythical figure to her. "I dont suppose you knew her." she said hopefully. She expected to hear him say no, but on the off chance...
He inquired about her call sign, it made sense to her, she guessed. "Um, I dont care, whatever you think would be good sir, I just want to perform my duties as I was trained." she said honestly. The bartender still ignored her so she turned away to hide her fustration. She knew she looked far too young to be drinking, but if she was old enough to fly a Viper and die fighting, she ought to be able to have a drink as well, but things are not always fair.

"No...I never...knew an Angel. If.... Angel's the..... callsign..... you... want... I'll put.... it down..... as..... official.... record then. You.... can.... take..... Lieutenant MaraJade's....viper.... and..... make..... it your.... own. It's.... in..... Alpha.... bay..slot... 5."
I signaled the bartender over. "Hey Osh...Can... you get.... me a... Java Juice refill... and whatever.... the lady.... here wants... and a.... refill of grog for Rose.... over.... there. Put... it... on.... my tab." I said. "Gotcha Captain." Osh said. Shannon looked at me shocked. I smiled at her and said "Think..of....it as...a...welcoming present.... to... Gold Squadron." I said.
