Brik said,"I wish you were involved in this mission with us. From what we understand its very routine and I, for one, would love the honor of working with you both again. I'm sure Logan feels the same."
"Absolutely," Logan replied instantly. As Brik spoke this honest but professional statement, he felt something else, something PROFOUND. He thought of all of it...the felgercarb heaped on Bronze Squadron, their desire to prove themselves and be more than they seemed...meeting HER...the firefights inside the basestar, the fallen heroes, the harrowing experience with the stolen (and very broken) Cylon Raider... He knew that it might be time to dig a little deeper, even if the venue were less than private. Besides, every vid-watcher knew that the briefing was when this stuff was supposed to happen. He thought about his true feelings and made the decision to speak. Risking an interruption of the odd "link" that seemed to have formed between Logan and Hush (and that look in Logan's eye...), Brik reached out a hand, each, to the shoulders of Hush and Janey. "Warriors...Friends, I dare say...I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see you again and among the living!" The two smiled at that, as did everyone, then his tone gained gravity and his grip tightened ever so slightly. "It has been my honor to fight at your sides and any opportunity to do so again will surely be counted among my finest cycles." He looked both of them in the eyes, briefly but solidly, trying desperately to convey the depth of his feeling. A small tear of absolute joy ran down his face and he beamed a small but heartfelt smile at them. He knew the tear was there and made no effort to remove it. None at all.

Janey reached up and placed a free hand on top of the one Brik had rested on her shoulder. She hadn't expected quite this level of emotion to come from this unplanned reunion of the base star team, but now that she was seeing it she was deeply touched. They had worried about her and cared about her, and she felt her eyes starting to tear up as well. "If ever the chance comes up" she said. "Basestars or leaky skybuses, whatever the job. Ain't that right Hush?"
She looked over at him, but could see he hadn't heard a word.
Hush was lost, only aware of Logan's eyes, bright and shiney with a touch of sadness as they stared back at him. How could he have treated her so badly? None of it was her fault. Deep down he knew that. It was just an excuse to keep her at a distance. Now that the mission was done, what did they have in common? What chance did he stand with her now? That was where the anger came from. And he felt worse for using Weasel's death in such a way, to cover for his own misery.
Not that Bronze's losses didn't hit him hard. They did. Weasel was dead. Janey could easily have been. And Ally... who knew how she was? But he didn't have to lay a big guilt trip on Logan about it....
He owed her an explanation at least. He could ask her for a moment in private, all he had to do was ask, say the words, just...
Janey slugged him in the shoulder again. "Fleet to Hush" she said. "Come in Hush."
"Huh, uh yeah" he mumbled. "Sorry, I was just thinking..."
"It's okay" Janey said, rubbing his shoulder. "It's all still fresh for me too, seeing these guys again." She smiled at them to show it was okay though. "Wish we had time for a cold one. I just got cleared by medlab and it seems I'm... we're being sent out again", indicating Hush and herself. "And I don't think it's a solium leak this time either."
"How do you know that?" Hush asked.
"Cause I'm a genius" Janey joked. "No stupid, it's just that we aren't called for a briefing to look for leaks. That stuff is just what we do after we brush our teeth at the start of a cycle."
True enough, Hush thought. Looking for leaks was the usual routine. He wondered about the message he'd only heard pieces of, and wondered as well how what they'd been summoned for might tie in with this Gold briefing, if at all. "Guess we should go" he said, but the way he looked at Logan said he wanted to do anything but go at the moment.

Brie slowly shook her head. "I'm sorry, but that's not good enough. Even if we were to find Earth tomorrow and they had the capability to destroy the Cylons, there could never be an 'us'. You and Amy are my two best friends, but now that Amy and I are going to be mother and daughter our relationship will change. There's no way around it. I don't want what you and I have to change. I need you as a friend and of course as my SIC. I'm sorry, I don't want to hurt you, but I don't want you to be in love with me. Love is too fracking complicated." She briefly considered telling him that she was in love with someone else, but decided against it. She knew that she had hurt him too much already. As Brie looked at the mug in her hand a sad smile crossed her face. "I never meant to break your heart, but you can use this to pick up the pieces." She glanced at her chrono. "We'd better get back, I don't want to be late to my own meeting."

Skyler rose to his feet held out his hand Brie took it and allowed him to pull her to her feet.
"Brie, I will always be your friend... I just can't allow myself to 'love' again. As hard as it is for me to say that I have moved on, I have. I know our path does not lie together, even if it shares many a twist and turn, and appears to mirror each other, there are parts that separate and goes its own way at times and intersects at later points." Skyler looked into her eyes, into her soul and knew at that micron that it was someone else, Justin? She would tell him when it was time. "I am always here for you, no matter what. I will always be here for you, but you know that. I will be fine, my heart will be fine. You know what they say, if it doesn’t kill you, it only makes you stronger…. Now, let’s get to the meeting, we don’t want Amy to beat us there…”

"Guess we should go" Hush said, but the way he looked at Logan said he wanted to do anything but go at the moment.
"No, wait," Logan said quickly. Hush looked at her in surprise. As did Brik.
Logan smiled and bit her lip again. "I think you should wait for the Major to get back, at least. If the announcement you heard did include you, you'll only have to turn around and come back if you leave now." That sounds logical. Yes. Definitely logical. What am I doing?
Logan looked at Brik helplessly. She had no idea what to say or do now. Being this indecisive was not like her at all and she wasn't sure whether to be angry with herself or laugh.
But she knew that she had seen something in Hush's stare. It looked like hope and she was going to hold onto it for everything it was worth.

Brie felt worse after talking to Skyler. She knew that he would be okay, knew that if she told him about her new relationship that he would be happy for her. But she also knew that she had hurt him, which was the last thing that she had wanted to do. How they went from talking about the mission to Skyler's feelings she wasn't sure, but she was mad at herself because of it.
As soon as Brie entered the Ready Room she noticed two things; first, that Amy wasn't there, and second, there were two warriors present who weren't on her team. "You're from Bronze Squadron," Brie stated.
They both nodded, then saluted. They looked slightly embarrassed to be there. "Lieutenants Janey and Hush, Ma'am," the woman answered.
"At ease," Brie said. She thought for a micron, she knew she had heard those names before. "You were on the baseship mission?" Janey nodded. "I'm sorry for your losses." Brie glanced at Logan, who had a slightly anxious expression on her face. Brik did as well. Brie knew that members of the two squadrons had bonded on this mission, it would have been almost impossible not to. "Excuse me for a micron." She went to the computer in the corner of the room and typed out a quick message. She then approached Logan. "I apologize for my outburst earlier. As I explained to Skyler, this mission looks simple on paper, but it's going to be a bit emotional for me. You'll understand soon." Her comm beeped. Brie checked it and smiled. She faced the two Bronze Squadron members. "Lieutenants Janey and Hush, by orders from Major Jorlan, you are now officially a part of this assignment."

Amy came into the room, obviously preoccupied and a little flustered. "Sorry I'm late" she said. "And I don't want to talk about it." She stopped, realizing that everyone had turned and begun staring at her, or more pointedly, staring at her lower half. Maybe her blouse didn't look like a dress after all, she thought as her face flushed red. "Permission to change into uniform, Mommm-Major?" she asked, correcting herself in mid-word.

"I apologize for my outburst earlier. As I explained to Skyler, this mission looks simple on paper, but it's going to be a bit emotional for me. You'll understand soon."
Logan nodded at Brie in acceptance of the apology. She knew that if the Major exploded that way there was a good reason for it.
Brie's comm beeped. She checked it and smiled. She faced the two Bronze Squadron members. "Lieutenants Janey and Hush, by orders from Major Jorlan, you are now officially a part of this assignment."
Logan blinked in disbelief. Even though she had not wanted the two Bronze Warriors to leave, especially Hush, she really hadn't thought they were a part of Gold's mission. Now faced with the reality of being in Hush's presence for a briefing and another mission, she was torn.
Part of her was happy at the idea of being able to have an excuse to talk to him, to try to mend whatever differences he thought they had from the last mission and it's aftermath.
The other part of her wanted to run from the room and hide in her Viper. He had made himself clear without words that Gold Squadron and particularly Logan had let him down. He seemed to buy into the theory that Gold held themselves above everyone else.
But with Major Brie's announcement, a world of possibilities flooded Logan's mind. The chance to get to know Hush on a routine mission. They already shared a bond with each other, a tragic one. She couldn't stop herself from hoping that a lighter, less dangerous mission would help heal some of the hurts from the last one.
Brik elbowed her in the ribs and she realized she was standing there, with that stupid smile on her face again.
But this time, he was drawing her attention to the latest arrival in the Ready Room. Captain Amy. Who for some reason was wearing a long blouse and a bewildered expression as she asked Brie for permission to change into a uniform.

Brie tried her hardest to not look disapprovingly at her daughter but the girl was a mess. "Permission granted, Captain, but make it fast. There should be a spare uniform in the locker room." Brie walked close to Amy and lowered her voice. "You okay?" Amy nodded but didn't say anything. Brie reached into her pocket and pulled out a small pack. "Here," she said, handing it to her, "you might want a mint."

"I apologize for my outburst earlier. As I explained to Skyler, this mission looks simple on paper, but it's going to be a bit emotional for me. You'll understand soon."
Logan nodded at Brie in acceptance of the apology. Feeling a bit of relief, Brik continued to observe and soak in all of the emotions of the last few centons. What more could happen in one briefing??? While he was surprised a bit at his reaction to Janey and Hush, he felt no shame. Long ago he knew that to deny emotions was the sure path to insanity...and that his surrogate family was too important to hide important things from. But he WAS surprised just a little bit...ok a lotta bit...at Janey's response and it renewed his hope for the entirety of Colonial Warriors. Sadly a dying breed it sometimes seemed. But then he looked at and thought about the wealth of new Warriors in both of Callisto's mighty squadrons and his small kernel of restored faith grew larger in his head and in his heart. And, as usual, he found himself quite proud and quite lucky to bear the title "COLONIAL WARRIOR", thought of as the most dignified and collected individuals that the Colonies had ever had to offer! Brie's comm beeped. She checked it and smiled. She faced the two Bronze Squadron members. "Lieutenants Janey and Hush, by orders from Major Jorlan, you are now officially a part of this assignment."
Ok,THAT could also happen during one briefing. Hmm...so much for dignified and collected. Brik hadn't had much experience with the Captain and this, as a first impression, left a lot to be desired. He wasn't aware that he shook his head ever so slightly in disapproval as Amy left.
