Hi everyone,
just thought I would put something on here about Star Wars books. There have been so many new series out now over the past years that I wanted to ask which Star Wars books have you all gotten into and read?
I read all of the original trilogy novelizations as well as Timothy Zahn's first trilogy back in the early 1990s (Heir to the Empire, Dark Command and Dark Force Rising).
Other than that, I have bought the Visual Dictionaries of all the movies.
I have just begun a new "trilogy" of Star Wars books centered around Revenge of the Sith. I have just finished reading James Luceno's "Labyrinth of Evil" and have begun the ROTS novelization. I will finish that off with Luceno's continuation novel, Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader which was just released a couple of weeks ago.

I've been meaning to answer this for a while. Better late than never, right?
When Star Wars first came out I read the book so many times I had parts of it memorized. I remember when Empire came to theaters. There were only three screens where I was living and my parents wouldn't let me borrow their car and drive an hour away because it was "just a movie," so I didn't get to see it until it arrived locally two weeks later. I bought the book, though, and made my mom hide it until after I had seen the movie.
But that doesn't really answer the question. I've read some of the novels, but for me they pale compared to the movies. I HATED Vector Prime! Hated, hated, hated it. I didn't like the novelizations for any of the prequels, especially Sith. There were too many inner thoughts, and I really don't care to know what it's "like to be Anakin Skywalker."
I read the Han Solo series a few years back, I liked those. And if I ever find the time I'll start the X-Wing series.

I agree with your assessment of the Sith novelization. I didn't care for the "what's it's like to be Anakin or Obi-Wan or Padme, etc."
However, the Luceno novels "Labyrinth" and "Dark Lord" are pretty cool. The Labryinth of Evil takes you right up into the movie starting point and it corresponds with what happened in the Clone Wars animated cartoon as well. Pretty neat..
Of course, now that I'm finished with that, I have moved on and am currently reading Richard Hatch's latest Battlestar novel, Redemption.

One thing I'll say in defense of the Sith novel. It's hard to write a light saber duel, and as we all know that movie had plenty of them. I'm not saying that they were written all that well, but talking about fighting styles was at least a good try at a different angle.
I still haven't seen Clone Wars. Once again, lack of time.
Let me know how the new RH book is. The library doesn't have it, and I haven't found the last couple worth $22.95 plus tax. He needs to find a co-writer who actually knows the series.

Well, all of Richard's books are for sale from Amazon sellers at a pretty discounted rate, especially if you go with used books. I think I got this new one for $15...

I don't think they're even worth $15 lately. Sorry, since Warhawk I haven't been impressed, and even the first two had a whole lot of problems.
But that's just my opinion.

Star Wars Novels...... I would have to recommend the X-Wing series by Michael A. Stackpole and AAron Allston. Since I costumed as an X-Wing pilot, pre Hurricane Isabel, when I had a costume, I really got into the X-Wing series. Great Series that picks up 6.5 - 7.5 years after the events in A New Hope, and a little over 2 years after Return of the Jedi. Most of the stories takes place in this time frame (7 novels) Two more novels follow, one around the 9 year mark, and another around the 13 year mark. Sadly, only 9 novels are in the series, and I have read them all multiple times. I feel they have the characters nailed. You get to see falimiar faces through out. Wedge Antilles is the CO of Rouge Squadron. I know I really got into these novels and loved the characters. And no character is safe, which will keep you on your toes.
One cool thing to learn is the X-wing can take out AT-AT's with one shot, no need for stupid cables and flying around and around and around......... so Al, watch you back... ;-)
Paula, I agree with Vector Prime.... I started reading it, learned one of the plot twist early on from a friend who was ticked about it, comfirmed it online and never picked it back up. The New Jedi Order series I started, but couldn't get into it at all. It had concepts I liked, but others I didn't. I am sorry the ones I didn't like out weighed the ones I did like.
A friend recommend the Courtship of Princess Leia to me, which I havn't read, or found locally, so I may have to buy it and find out.
Any others out there..... and sorry I was late. I would get so caught up reading the stories in the RPG I never made it this far down....;-)

I'm late as usual with these posts I have read Splinter Of The Minds Eye, Courtship Of Princess Leia, Truce At Bakura, Xwing series, Darksaber, Planet Of Twilight The Corellian Trilogy, Specter Of the Past, Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy, The Children Of the Jedi, The Jedi Academy Trilogy Timothy Zahns Trilogy, Heir to The Empire, Dark Force Rising and The Last Command. to name a few.
The courtship of Princess Leia was cool but enjoyed Truce At Bakura the best apart from the X-wing series.

I just finished reading Splinter of the Mind's Eye. Very interesting and really does take you back to the good old days of Star Wars when there was just Star Wars, not even Empire Strikes Back! Amazing how some of the concepts in that novel made it into ESB. Although I"m glad they did not make this into the sequel!!!
