In the darkness of space there is no sound, but light will travel anywhere. Therefore with no sound but a brilliant flash of light the total darkness of space was disturbed for only a microcenton and then everything was the same again.
Or at least almost the same. In the space where there had been nothing before now hung a viper, bearing the markings of Gold Squadron and the Callisto. In the cockpit sat it's unconscious pilot who's subtle breathing seemed the only thing to disturb the silence. The light of his helmet illuminated his pale face and accentuated the scar running over his left eye...

The tech glanced at his screen. He had been so exited about starting his first day on the bridge. Still very unsure and insecure about the proper proceedings he was still very proud to have attained it. He had thought that today was probably the happiest day of all his life...
Until a few moments ago. That was when a Colonial Viper appeared in his monitor seemingly out of nowhere. The tech had no idea what to do about it. He was sure he had been reading the instruments correctly, and doubly sure he had been paying attention. But still, there it was...
Unsure wether he wanted to draw attention to himself and the possible mistakes he could have made, he was unwilling to mention it. But still, it was his duty to report anything unusual. And the Viper's pilot might be in some kind of trouble, since the ship seemed to be just hanging there, in mid space...
Hesitantly the tech raised his hand...

Flight Officer Geenie saw that Mission Spec. Liod raised his hand. Liod had been under close supervision for his task of keeping tabs on anything the monitors showed since the time he misidentified a fleet tanker for a Cylon patrol craft during his training period in the simulators.
"What is it, Liod?" Geenie asked...

Mission spec. Liod nervously pointed at the screen in front of him.
"Look, sir, it's a viper."
Flight officer Geenie sighed.
"Yes, I can see that. But who is it? I don't believe any flights were schedualed?"
Mission spec. Liod swallowed hard.
"That's just it, sir. I don't know. It suddenly appeared..... as out of nowehere...."

Geenie frowned.
"Don't be ridiculous Liod, vipers don't just appear out of nowhere. You must not have been paying enough attention."
Mission spec. Liod felt the sweat running down his back. This was exactly what he had feared. He would screw up on his first day...
"I'm sorry sir, it must be my fault..."
Geenie patted him om the back.
"Don't worry Liod, I know this is your first watch. These things happen, you know. You'll get used to it."
Liod sighed with relief.
"Thank you sir, it won't happen again."
"Good, " Geenie said; "now lets try and find out who that is out there and why he or she is on an unschedualed flight..."

"Communications, try to hail that viper out there." Geenie commanded.
"Right on it, sir." the Communications officer promptly responded.
"Ehm, sir..." Liod tried hestitantly.
"Yes, what is it Mission Spec. Liod?" Geenie asked, trying to sound as reassuring as he could. He still remembered his first day on the bridge and how overwhelmed he had been.
"Eh, well sir, the viper has Gold sqadron markings. Perhaps Major Brie should be notified?"

Geenie looked at Liod like he had gone insane. "You can try to inform Major Brie if you would like, but I think it would be really difficult, considering the fact that she's in a coma." Liod sat with his mouth open, not sure what to say. "We'll try contacting Captain Skyler," Geenie continued. "He's Gold Squadron's second-in-command. He just returned from a mission, so he might be on R&R."
"If he's not available, who is the third officer?" Liod asked.
"Captain Amy, also in a coma," Geenie replied. "Wait a centon..." She checked something in front of her. "Major Brie made Captain Hawke acting third officer. We could let him know. But before we alert anyone, let's continue to try to make contact with the pilot."

Geenie finished, "And Liod, don't call me 'sir.' You can call me ma'am."

Liod checked his readouts, then noticed something he overlooked. He turned to Geenie.
"M'am?" he said hesitantly, "I show Ensign Dolet of Black Squadron on a routine patrol in that sector. He launched a few microns ago. Shall I raise him?"
Geenie nodded, and made the contact herself. "Ensign Dolet, Callisto here. Unidentified viper in your sector, not responding to hails. Please investigate, use caution."
"Roger Callisto", Dolet responded immediately.
Dolet, the newly minted ensign of Black Squadron, had volunteered for the flight after his disaster of a 'date' with Lt. Logan. The other members of Black Squadron, having had quite a time in the O-Club, were more than happy to let the assignment pass all the way down to Dolet.
Dolet figured it to be a quiet flight, after all not every one could turn out as exciting as the last one, when he ended up helping to liberate the agro ship from Pierce and his followers...
Dolet banked his viper, flipped on his scanner, and began to home in on the mystery viper.

As Dolet checked his instruments again he saw that the Viper the Callisto had sent him to investigate.
"Callisto, this is Dolet," he hailed the Callisto; "Viper is indeed not moving and does appear to have Gold Squadron markings. I am now about to hail the unknown Viper."
"Go ahead Ensign, " Geenie said aboard the Callisto; "I hope you have more luck than we do."
"Thanks..."
Dolet sighed. Why did he have the feeling that things would not turn out the way he expected.
"Unidentified Gold Squadron Viper, come in please.""
There was no reaction.
"Please respond."
Dolet decided to try again.
"Unidentified Gold Squadron Viperthis is Ensign Dolet of Black Squadron. Come in please."
