The ultimate conundrum: the mother or the baby. Why were the Lords doing this? No, more to the point, why were the Cylons doing this?
Instead of sadness, I felt anger. Anger at the Cylons for doing this. Why were they still coming after us? Why would they experiment on a human baby? They were still learning. They wanted to know more about us!
Frack, and they got to Amy and our baby! Gaulmonging tinheads! I want to kill them all! That baseship in the atmosphere, we should blast it into oblivion. Not give them one more micron to live and hurt others!
"Amy. I don't know what to tell you. In one way, this baby could be a vital piece of the puzzle of what the Cylons are up to, maybe we could use it against them? But, I also know that I can't lose you again. I've gone through your death once, and I won't do it again. Not if I can help it. There must be something we can do..."
I held her close again. 'Something we can do' was what I said, but I had no idea what that 'something' was...however, there was one thing we could do.
"Amy," I looked into her eyes. "Amy, I want you to know that I love you. And I'm tired of waiting. Take the seal with me right now, before anything else happens. Why are we waiting now? Waiting for what? For a tomorrow that may never come? I want you to be sealed to me for now and for eternity..."

Amy wanted it more than anything. She never felt more love for Charybdis than at that very micron. But....
"I'd love to more than anything, Charybdis, but... How could we?" she asked. "They're prepping for surgery at this very micron... the doctor wouldn't stand for any delay... and could the commander be spared to come down here in the midst of battle to seal us?"
It wouldn't be lavish, or the spectacle the fleet would be expecting, but Amy tried to think. How could they do it with so little time left?

I thought about what Amy had said, then it hit me. "Reverend Mars will be available! The Commander doesn't have to do all sealing ceremonies. He could be down here within centons..."
I waited to see what Amy thought...

Amy shook her head doubtfully.
"I don't know about that, Charybdis. A priest suddenly rushing down to my room? My mom would have a heart attack thinking I was getting the Kobolian last rites!"

"Well, given the situation, Amy. That might not be a bad idea either," I said matter of factly. Amy looked sort of surprised that I would say such a thing.
"I did'nt mean it like that. The Kobollian last rites are given to those who are ill or are in danger. Not that you're going to...well... You know what I mean. We all get them if we wish to every time we leave on a mission. Say the word and I'll get Rev. Mars here fast. And we can tell your mother right now before he gets here. She's just down the hall."

"To tell you the truth" Amy said, "I've never asked for the Kobolian Last Rites. My faith's not that deep. Another byproduct of my wonderful family life I guess. And frankly right now, after what's been done to me, done to us, I wouldn't ask the lords for a thing. Know any judges you could get down here...?"
She'd never really discussed faith with Charybdis, and she figured he'd just found out a real handful. But she didn't care, and he'd have to know sooner or later anyway. And distraction was a good thing, at least it was keeping her mind from dwelling on the upcoming surgery...

At that moment a Colonial Warrior came bursting into the door, almost bumping into Charybdis as he did so.
Realising who he was facing he snapped to attention.
"Lieutenant-Colonel"
Then he saw Amy behind Charybdis and dropped his position.
"Amy! Eh, I mean, captain..."

Amy's eyes grew wide with surprise and recognition.
"Artus...?" she stammered. "Artus... I'd heard you'd... that you were alive..." She looked from Charybdis to Artus then back again. When she looked back at Artus, a look of affection spread across her face.
Maybe there was a higher power after all... maybe it was a sign, the lords telling her that she'd survive too...

"Lieutenant. Calm down." I said. Artus looked as if he had been running. "And I think you need some catching up to do. It's Colonel Charybdis. I was promoted more than two yahrens ago."
He looked a bit dazed and confused, but he sure had impeccable timing...

Amy's face lit up as she looked at Artus. It was a miracle! She was sure she'd never see him again, and even when she'd been told he was back it still didn't register like it did now. He looked different, a little older maybe, but then life as a warrior tended to wear on a person. And a little time had passed as well since she saw him last.
Was it a sign from the lords? The timing was perfect. Amy wasn't all that inclined to think that way, but she'd just gotten through practically denying that the lords exist, and then here walks in this... this...
"It's a miracle" she said aloud. "If there ever was one, this is it." She held out a hand, shifting her weight a little so she was facing him better while Charybdis sat by her side. "Don't just stand there, Artus. Come in."
