Amy shrugged. "There's not much to say about Charybdis, except there isn't going to be a sealing. I'll 'over a barrel' him, right over the head."

"Good," Brie replied faster than she had intended. "I'm sorry, honey, but I've never liked the way that Charybdis treats you. He acts like your sole purpose in life is making him happy, doing what he wants. Making you sneak around when you were falling apart emotionally because of it, couldn't he see what it was doing to you? I sure could!" She stopped. "Sorry, didn't mean to go off like that. Believe it or not, Charybdis and I had a long talk and worked out some of our own felgercarb. We're actually almost getting along. But I'm still glad about what you said about the sealing. A relationship should be based on love and respect, not physi..."
The door opened and a medtech walked in. "Sorry to interrupt," she said. "Wrong room."
"One quick thing," Brie said before she could leave. "I need to have a medical bed delivered to my quarters. Captain Amy will be staying with me once she’s released from here.”
The medtech stared at Brie for a micron. “I’m sorry, Major, but I thought that Amy’s recovery was a decision for her mother to make.”
“I am Amy’s mother,” Brie said boldly. “Now please make sure that the bed is delivered well before her expected release.”
“But I thought that Abby was..."
"Amy has two mothers," Brie said, offering no further explanation. She glanced at Amy, then back at the medtech. "Is Abby around? We need to talk to her."
"No, Ma'am, I haven't seen her for a while." The medtech looked confused, but didn't ask anything else. "I'll take care of your request right away. And Major, only a couple more centons. Your, um, daughter needs her rest." She closed the door behind her.
"My daughter..." Brie smiled at Amy. "That sounds so wonderful."

Amy smiled. "Yeah" she agreed, "it does." She gave Brie a little tap on the arm. "Way to take charge, mom!" Her expression then grew a little more serious. "Any idea of how we're going to break this to Abby? She smokes like an overheating viper, so I'll bet she's just in the smoking area of the waiting room, if I was to put a few cubits down on it...."

"Disgusting habit," Brie replied automatically. "Sorry, I'm allergic to the fracking things, and I just can't understand why the powers-that-be allow people to use up oxygen on something that's so bad for everyone. But anyway, I guess we just look Abby right in the eye and tell her that since you now know the truth, we're going to try to develop our relationship as family. But that doesn't make her any less family, she'll always be your mother as well." Brie looked at Amy again. "She does love you, Amy, no matter what you think." She stood up. "I guess we need to get this over with." Brie gave Amy one more hug. "I'll be back in a couple of centons, I promise." Probably coughing like my lungs are going to come out... she thought to herself as she walked out the door.

Feeling even happier than before, Brie continued towards the smoking area. Skyler's going to be fine, and I have my daughter back. What a day! she thought to herself. She took a deep breath and held it before opening the door to the smoking area. There were only two people there, neither one was Abby. Good, I really don’t feel like seeing her right now anyway. I can’t believe that she told Amy and didn’t let me know. Brie closed the door behind her and started breathing again. She asked at the desk and was told that Abby had left at least a centar earlier. The medtech in charge also warned Brie that she should have left Amy centons ago, and that Amy needed to get some rest.
Ignoring what had been said, Brie went back to Amy’s room. “I should have taken that bet,” she said immediately. “Abby wasn’t there. They said she’s been gone for a while. And they're going to kick me out of here any micron, so I probably should be going." Instead of walking towards the door Brie approached Amy. "Oh, good news! Skyler's back, he didn't die after all! I told him the truth about us, but the doctor didn't give him time to react. But I don't care what anyone thinks, as I told you before I won't deny you again." She gave Amy one last hug. "I'll be back tomorrow. I'm going to be unavailable for a while...Justin and I are having dinner tonight."

"Major Justin?" Amy asked. "Ooh, I see. A lot has gone on since I was last in the loop. Casual dinner, or serious dinner?"

Holodoc felt as though she had been through the ringer already with all the injured warriors being brought into MedLab for one treatment or another. Ever since the beginning of this mission, Holodoc had gotten very little sleep and it appeared as though it would be awhile before she got more than a few centars at a time due to some of the injuries several of the warriors had come into MedLab with over the last few days alone.
After checking over one of the warriors that was brought in with an injury, Holodoc grabbed a couple medical padds she needed and heaed in the direction of where Captain Lazant had been placed when he was brought into MedLab. She had gotten word that he was giving a couple of the MedTechs a hard time in letting them treat him for the burns he had received as well as the injury to his eyes. Holodoc was going to find out just what sort of trouble that Lazant was giving the MedTech's and then allow them to help out other injuried warriors while she delt with the Captain. She knew that he wasn't going to like what she had to say when it came to his treatments for recovery, but at this point Holodoc didn't let that bother her for she was there to make sure each person got the required treatment needed for their injuries.
As she was headed to where Lazant was located, Holodoc spotted one of her kittens, BrieCora, had gotten out of her office where she had them located out of the way of all the action going on right now in MedLab. Scooping up the kitten into her arms, Holodoc continued on towards Lazant's location.
Holodoc was walking past the room where Captain Amy was recovering and talking with Major Brie some. She heard one of them mention Major Justin and stepped over to the cracked door and opened it up a little. "Hello you two. I don't mean to interrupt your discussion, but I figured this would be a good spot for awhile for a certain wayward kitten to hide out and not get trampled on by all the activity out here in MedLab." Holodoc stepped into the cubical enough to place BrieCora on the foot of Amy's bed and turned to head back out the door. She stopped long enough to turn briefly looked at both Captain Amy and Major Brie. "Before I forget, if either of you happen to see Major Justin later on, please tell him that he is over due for his yearly physical by 6 months. He is to get get his tail down her to MedLab within the week for his physical or else I will not only pull his tail off of Active Duty until he does come by, I will personally hunt him down and drag him back here to MedLab by the ear." Holodoc couldn't help but smile slightly as she saw the look on both Amy's and Brie's face when she mentioned what she would do to Major Justin if he didn't get down to MedLab for his over due physical. "Now I have a certain problem patient to go deal with by the name of Captain Lazant."

"Good luck with him," Brie mumbled as Holodoc left. Although she had been planning on leaving Brie walked over to BrieCora and started scratching her behind her ear. The kitten purred contentedly. “Holodoc offered me one of the kittens once,” she said to Amy. “I turned her down, because Turner was allergic, and that was when I was still holding out hope that he...” Brie looked off into the unseen distance for just a micron. "Starliner Alpha,” she said, answering Amy’s earlier question. “You weren’t the only one that I was keeping things from, Justin and I had a long talk a couple of days ago. He’s been a really good friend, especially since the moon mission, and I‘ll admit there‘s a very strong attraction between us, even if he is so young.” Brie grinned. “I stop keeping secrets and I end up with a date and a daughter. Not too bad. Amy, wait until you see the dress that I’m going to...that I’m thinking about wearing. Frack, I’m not used to that kind of thing. I’m most comfortable in my uniform.” Her comm beeped again, startling the poor kitten. “Obviously someone is trying to get my attention. I’ll be back tomorrow, I promise.” With the smile still on her face, Brie left and headed towards her quarters.

As Brie neared her quarters she couldn't believe how much her life had changed in such a short time. Why she had told Amy the truth she wasn't sure, it was almost as if someone had whispered in her ear that the time was right. She wasn’t quite as mad at Abby as she had been, after all there were three messages that Brie had been ignoring, one of them had to be from Amy's other mother. Once inside her office the first thing Brie did was check her messages. The first was from Major Joey, informing her that Skyler and his team had made it back. The second was also from Joey, informing her that she had won the Gold Squadron election. The third was from Lt. Flell, nothing from Abby. He let Brie know that there were two new recruits that were assigned to Gold Squadron that he believed were flight ready and that Artus' flight status had been restored. Brie typed up a quick message.
Attention Gold Squadron:
We have two new members who are joining our ranks from the Academy. Ensign Thorne will be my new wingman and Ensign Persephone will be Lieutenant Artus’ new wing. Since Gold’s numbers are down at the moment due to injuries we are not scheduled for any major missions in the foreseeable future, but the next routine patrol that we’re assigned will belong to Artus and Persephone.
I would also like to inform you that Captain Amy, Gold Squadron’s Third Officer, is recovering nicely and is allowed visitors.
Finally, Captain Hawke will be in charge of Gold Squadron for several centars this evening. If there are any problems see him, although I don’t expect there to be any.
Major Brie.
Brie then decided to send a message to Justin.
Justin,
I hope we’re still on for tonight. Just let me know when and where you want to meet and I’ll be there.
Brie.
p.s. Captain Holodoc says you need to get your “tail in for your physical within the sectar” or else she’ll have you pulled from active duty. Sorry, I’m just the messenger.
Finally, since none of the messages had been from Abby Brie decided to send her one instead. She was slightly upset again, and hoped her sarcasm showed.
Abby,
Thanks for letting me know.
Brie.
After having sent all three notes, Brie left to look for Artus. She had a promise to her daughter to keep.

Abby returned to medlab, got the go ahead from the nurse, and went down to Amy's room. She knocked once before entering. Amy looked up, a look of surprise passing over her face before she could cover it up.
Abby smiled. "How are you feeling, Amy?"
"Fine..." Amy replied.
"Who's the little critter?" Abby asked, walking up to pet the cat.
"BrieCora" Amy replied. "Nurse Holodoc dropped her off. Look, there's something I--"
"I can only stay a moment" Abby said. "I.... have a date." She held up a hand. "I know, it's so soon after your father's death. But I have to eat, don't I? And an old friend has invited me out."
"I'm sure it's fine, but--" Amy started to say.
"Thing is, I haven't a change of clothes. I never expected to be aboard so long as it is. Everything is back on the agroship." She looked at Amy, their eyes meeting, and in that moment Amy saw a spark that she'd never seen before in her life. Abby took a step back, looking down at herself. "Do I look okay?" she asked, almost nervously.
Amy decided that what she had to say about Brie could wait. Abby seemed so alive, so unlike any time that Amy could remember. "You look great" Amy said, and it was the truth.
Abby seemed relieved, and even stepped forward to give Amy a hug.
"Oooh" Amy said. "Breath, though. You still smoking?"
Abby looked embarrassed, putting a hand up to her mouth. "That bad?" she asked.
"The turboflush should have something" Amy offered. Abby nodded, went into the bathroom, and Amy sat back, listening to her brush. For a moment Amy flashed back to a time long ago, listening to 'her parents' putter around after she'd gone to bed. If she closed her eyes, she could picture her old room, and where everything was...
"Better?" Abby asked, coming out of the room and closer to Amy.
"Oh yeah" Amy smiled. They hugged again.
"I'll stop in again after dinner" Abby said, her hand on the doorknob. She realized that Amy really did seem better. Her earlier snarling behavior was gone. What ever the reason, Abby was happy for it. "See you then?"
"Okay" Amy agreed. Abby smiled, opened the door and left. The door swung partway shut, but didn't close all the way. She listened to Abby's footsteps as they grew fainter and fainter, then Amy picked up BrieCora and began to pet the cat absentmindly...
