GearBox stood at rigid attention on the flight deck. The crew chief and officer were only a few steps away from him and he could tell the chief was ready to breath fire. "Frak," thought GearBox. "Where's the Ambrosia when you need it?". He took a deep breath and wondered just exactly what he'd gotten himself in to.

"Colonel," Geenie said.
"Yes, Geenie," I responded anxiously, awaiting any word about the ship that was supposed to land any micron.
"Report that Ensign Gearbox never launched, sir."
"Well, make sure he files a report about why. These new ensigns sure keep us on our toes."
I turned to Commander Sheba. "Commander, perhaps it would be best if I made my way down to Beta Bay to be onhand. If it is Brie, I would like to be there."
Sheba thought about it for a micron, "well, knowing Major Brie she'll be wondering why all the hype, but with all the things going on in this system, maybe it's a good idea. Escort her personally back to the bridge, Colonel. I want to speak with her as soon as she lands."
"Yes, ma'am." I quickly turned and headed for the landing bay almost at a sprint once I reached the corridor and I was safely out of view of the Commander...

"At ease, Ensign, " Logan said, deciding on the spot to defuse the situation. Gher was a good man, but like other techs and crew, he took his duties a little too far sometimes, seeming to feel the ships were his children. Of course, in a manner of speaking, they were. But Gher and others often looked down on the pilots as being too reckless with 'their babies.'
"Ensign...?," she asked.
"Gearbox, Captain!, " the Ensign replied smartly.
Gher seemed to be losing steam as he saw the exchange. Logan was one of the few Warriors that Gher actually seemed to respect. Even he thought it must have been the Lords will that she had been the officer to show up in this micron. No telling what he might have done otherwise. And the last thing he needed was Major Skyler coming down on him. Mainly because he knew that whatever tongue lashing Skyler would have given him for an altercation with the new Ensign would have been deserved.
Gher folded his arms across his massive chest and fumed, hoping his body language alone would cow the Ensign. It seemed to work as Gearbox looked hesitantly towards the Chief and then quickly back at his superior.
"Ensign Gearbox, I am Captain Logan of Gold Squadron. I see you're one of Major JustinB's newest recruits. I hope you've found your orientation to the Callisto helpful, but you may have missed one of your original protocol sessions. It happens, what with acclimating yourself to your surroundings and all. Now, Crew Chief Gher is particular about which ships he sends us pilots out on. He has this noble idea that it would be best if we didn't blow ourselves up on our first time out of the chute." She turned to smile at Gher, hoping to calm him further. Turning back to Gearbox, she shook her head and laughed. "Of course, he doesn't understand the call of space as we do and that flying by the seat of our pants is half the fun."
She lost the smile and looked the Ensign square in the eye. "But we do try to placate his tender feelings and at least take out the ship that the techs have cleared for launch. He takes it personally if we do otherwise. Understood?"

Major Skyler told me to tell you “Brik, Give him the ½ cubit tour and then give him his duty assignment.”
Brik said okay shipmate let’s get you squared away and then we can give you the ½ cubit tour and get you your duty assignment.”
Thanks Brik, it is good to see friendly faces for a change "Well, it's good to be that friendly face. I'm quite pleased to see you on the Callisto and in Gold Squadron, by the way. Now, I'll ask you, how have your flight simulations been going? I know that it's in your file but it gives us time to talk...walk with me as I head back to the bridge to check in with the Commander." Brik placed a friendly hand on his friend's shoulder, mostly to convince himself that the man was actually there. Yes, things in gold Squadron always remain interesting...

The activity in the bay had increased. People were running around and talking in hushed undertones, but a thread of excitement was there as well.
Logan saw far across the bay that a ship had just been escorted in. She couldn't tell much at this distance, but it was of a configuration she had never seen before. She also noted that several members of Gold Squadron had run past her at a clip and formed up near the ship.
She wasn't sure if Gearbox even answered her. She turned to Gher, eyes still locked on the distant ship, "Gher, take over." She figured by now Gher's initial anger had faded, especially since she had made it clear to the Ensign what his mistake had been. She made a mental note to send Major JustinB a message about it and without another word strode quickly across the bay in the direction of the newly arrived ship.
As she got closer she caught a glimpse of the pilot standing in the cockpit before jumping down to the deck. A crewmember in a hazard suit blocked her view momentarily, but she could have sworn the pilot was female. With red hair. She increased her speed and almost ran to the edge of the small crowd that had gathered.
Pushing her way through several techs and at least one burly Black Shirt who gave her a dirty look, she emerged on the other side of the throng and stopped short, her mouth dropping open in shock. It was Brie.

After powering down his Viper, Ensign Plwel quickly jumped out of the cockpit and ran over ot the Major waiting for him on the flight deck. "Sir, did you hear over the emergency comm net that Gold Squadron had been scrambled suddenly from the Callisto?" "Somehting about a ship and an intercept or escort" Major Skyler looked up quickly and asked "Did they say what it was Ensign?" Plwel responded "No sir...they did not....do you think we should return in case they need assistance? We can always come back and pick up on our investigation." Major Skyler had a puzzled expression on his face not understanding what could be going on......

Triton walked into the barracks after having been escorted there by Security, walked across the room to his bunk and flopped down onto his mattress.
"I can't believe it! I just can't believe it! I've been busted down to an ensign. What's Persephone going to say when she finds out about this? Not to mention my old friend, Sheba. What's she going to think of me now? Frak! What's Apollo going to say when he hears that his first cousin has been demoted for fighting?"
"I shouldn't have let him get to me like he did. But, frak it, he was asking for it! And I know he was lying about what he was doing with that Security camera. I just don't know what. But, by the Lords of Kobol I'm going to find out. One way or another."
"And all that felgercarb he was spouting about sending flowers to Persephone, he had to be lying about that too. If she had gotten flowers from Lysander she would have told me."
Triton knew he had to stop dwelling on Lysander's lies or he was just going to do something else he'd regret. So, he closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Having heard the call for a Gold Squadron security detail just as his old friend Upham found him, Brik spoke to the new squad member and allowed the Warriors of Gold to do their job. He new that he could trust them.
As usual, however, he maintained the safety requirement of listening to scuttlebutt (a survival skill often under-rated).
And received one of the greatest shocks of his adulthood in finding out that Brie was not only alive but back aboard the Callisto, she had come home!
He increased the pace of the journey to the bridge.

Brik, how come we are not heading to the flight deck as they called all Gold Squadron but we are heading towards the bridge?
Upham decided to stay with Brik as it could be interesting to see what was more important on the bridge than reporting as ordered to the flight deck to be part of the security detail.
