As much as Pierce had enjoyed his shuttle ride to the Rising Star, he was happy to return to the Starliner Alpha. He was surprised by how much he had actually almost missed Challa. Sure, the woman annoyed him, but he had grown used to her. Little did she know what an important role she was about to have.
Knowing that she wasn't expecting him, Pierce/Holt knocked before opening the door to the quarters that he and Challa shared. "I'm home, my pet," he said softly as he entered.
"Holt!" Challa exclaimed, running over to him. She threw her arms around him. "I've been so worried! Is everything okay? Are YOU okay? They said you wouldn't be back until sometime tomorrow."
"I was able to take a different shuttle, my pet," Holt said to her. "I had to come back to you." He kissed her passionately, then took her by the hand. He realized that he hadn't asked her how things had been, having stayed behind, but it didn't matter. The woman liked to talk, she would tell him eventually. "There's something I need to tell you, something wonderful." He sat down, Challa next to him. "Back, before my accident, I was involved with a woman. She broke my heart, and that's why I wasn't careful that day, my accident was her fault." He stared deep into Challa's eyes. "You would never break my heart, would you, my pet?"
"No, Holt, never," Challa replied automatically.
"I didn't think so." Holt paused for effect. "This woman, I just found out, is dead. Committed suicide. She deserved to die, after the pain that she caused me." He paused a second time. "I just found out that she and I had a child. A beautiful baby boy. With his mother dead, he's going to come and live with me." He paused a third time. "With us. I would like you to help me raise my son."
Challa's mouth dropped open. "Holt......I would be honored."
"Good," Holt said, standing again. "He'll be here tomorrow. We need to baby-proof."
"Wait," Challa said quickly. "What's his name?"
"Kumarbi," Holt told her. "It's from Hurrian mythology. Kumarbi was a god, as was his father."
"Kumarbi," Challa repeated. "It's beautiful."

"there's something else that you need to know. This was something that I decided during the mission, before I began to suspect that I might be pregnant, so the results of the test won't affect my decision. I'm leaving Gold Squadron. Lazant's position at the Training Academy is open, and I'm going to submit my name. I've done my time, I'm through." Skyler sat, slacked jawed at Brie’s announcement. He had the feeling of being punched in the gut and hard. His body felt numb, his mind raced and he couldn’t form a coherent thought, let alone put them into words. Not since the news of the death of his fiancé had he felt this way. Gold Squadron without Brie would be like springtime without the flowers. The heart and soul of the Squadron, commanding a room full of trainer sims… Then his mind found one thought, one that made him sick. After all this time, the one thing that kept them from being together, was going to be no more. She was his Commanding Officer, a relationship was forbidden, but now, that she had Justin and a possible baby, the one thing that stopped them from being together was being removed from the equation. He no longer felt gut punched, he felt gut shot. He was willing to give it all up, to resign his commission as a Colonial Warrior, re-enlist in the Infantry, join the security forces what fracking ever it took. He had waited too long. She was going and there was nothing he could do to stop her. “Brie, of all the things I have faced, been through, for once I don’t know what to say or do. If I thought it would help I would try to talk you out of it, but I can tell that look in your eyes, there is no turning back.” Skyler blinked to keep his eyes from tearing up as the emotions fought to gain control over him. “No matter, I am here for you. You know that, I will always be here for you.”

"No matter, I am here for you. You know that, I will always be here for you."
"I know that, my friend. I've never doubted it for a moment." Brie glanced at Skyler and saw for the first time the pain on his face that he was trying so hard to hide. She suddenly felt very guilty, but knew that he would just brush off another apology. She took back her hand, brushed away a tear, and got off of the examining table. "I should probably checked my messages." She typed her security code into the computer in the corner. She had two messages. The first was from Boleman, telling her of his decision to leave the Callisto. The second was even more of a surprise. "Commander Apollo wants me to fly over to the Galactica, first thing in the morning," she said. "Wants to discuss Pierce's group, and also the locals that my shuttle ran into. I'd better get myself together, can't let the Commander of the entire fleet see me like this." She sat back down and placed her hand near Skyler's but didn't take it again. "Frack, what's taking Bkj so long?"

A centon later Doc Bkj returned. Brie grabbed Skyler's hand again. "Well," Bkj started immediately, "it looks like the two of you are having a baby. You were right, you're pregnant."
Brie took a deep breath, letting it sink in. Then the first part of what Bkj had said hit her. "Skyler's not the father, he's just here for moral support," she confessed.
"Oh," Bkj said for a second time. She looked directly at Skyler. "I need to do an exam, I'll send someone to the waiting area for you as soon as I'm done."
"I don't want Skyler to leave," Brie said.
"He's not staying," Doc Bkj insisted.
"He's a gentleman, he won't look," Brie argued.
"How about this," Doc said with a sigh. "He can wait right outside of the door."
Skyler looked at Brie, who nodded. He then left the examining room, but she knew he wasn't going far. Brie stayed silent as Doc did her job. A million things were running through her mind. She had a couple of questions, but wanted to wait until Skyler had rejoined them before asking.
Doc Bkj had only one question. She and Brie had been friends for a long time, and had never expected to find her in this situation. She decided at last to just ask professionally. "You can sit up now, I'm done. So...is there someone that you want to put down as the father of record?"
"JustinB," Brie informed her, sitting back up. "I'm the one that he's been seeing, the one that Roxzanna-Rizou has been harassing all the redheads on the Callisto about. We've been together for a while now."
"So why is Skyler here with you instead of JustinB?" Doc asked.
Brie ignored the question. "Can he come back in now? Please?"
Doc Bkj nodded, and went to the door.

ALLY. PARALYZED.
As much as that stung, as much as that HURT, Brik knew that he had other duties, as always. Brie was counting on him and he had to make sure that the other shuttles crew was ok, that LOGAN was ok. She was his best friend and if those daggits did anything...!
The security chief, Royce he believed had already been told about the prisoners and how dangerous they were. It was now Brik's job to make sure that he acted accordingly.
"Janey." She looked at him with the remains of old tears in her eyes. He only knew that because they'd been talking, he was certain that anyone else would attribute her red eyes to the spectacularly difficult flight over. They wouldn't be far from wrong.
"We have to make certain that this trash gets to where it's going and that no other spills happen along the way. Go with me to see it through?" Her pause was enough to concern him but eventually she nodded ever so slightly while maintaining his gaze. "All the way through, Sir."
He walked over to the man. "Royce, I'm in command of these prisoners until your people have them locked away. As Brie said, make certain that the medics come to them, not the other way around. I'd also have a full guard on stand-by for those visits as well as any video surveillance that you have available." He knew that surveillance was lacking but anything helped.
"Also, the two of us will accompany them to their SEPARATE cells. Will that be a problem?"
The man looked up at him and thought over the situation as well as his options. The easiest was to let these Warriors complete their business.
"No Sir. Right this way" With that, the Colonial Warriors and a small cadre of Colonial Security escorted some unassuming women into their rightful places as rulers of artificial ground, approximately 2 meters by 2 meters square. With a toilet. Even such vile queens needed thrones, after all.
Speaking of vile, it seemed that this vile mission might FINALLY be over. Then he could check on Logan and Hush, get Janey any attention that she might need and make sure that Brie took her "post-mission" medicine that he was certain that she'd need for one thing or another.
Then he could go to the Alpha and see ALLY. Lords be with her. Lords be with them all.
Ok, all except his most recent prisoners.

Skyler propped against the door jam just outside the examining room waiting for word that he could return. His mind raced a mile a micron, he had to get it under control. He had to be there for Brie. He wasn’t sure about JustinB. He had never really talked to him. True he was a Warrior, but not all Warriors are cut from the same cloth. He had seen his fair share of glory hounds and hot daggits, looking for a fancy uniform and a chest full of medals. They were the ones that usually got the good Warriors killed. The members of Black Squadron respected him, and under normal conditions that would have been enough, but now it was messing with Brie. The one thing Skyler valued above life itself. If JustinB did anything to hurt her, well, even the Lords of Kobol wouldn’t be able to stop them. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He had to push the thought that when Brie took the Academy position that would open the door for them to at least attempt a relationship. The thing he wanted most was within sight finally, and sadly was being dangled just out of reach. He had to accept the fact that it wasn’t meant to be. Taking another deep breath and holding it for a few microns and slowly letting it out, trying to center his thoughts, to remember his Military Bearing and to push anything personal out of his mind. The mental conditioning he had received in the 1st Special Operations Force had paid off countless times, and was once more. He had a friend that needed him to be focused, in control. He stood tall, leaning his head to the left and right, using his neck muscles to apply force to the spine, hearing the pop snap of the joints as they released tension, he waited for BJK to return and let him back in…

Brie relaxed a little when Skyler came back in. Bkj's question stuck in her mind. Why was she sharing this with Skyler instead of JustinB? She knew the answer, and it wasn't just because JustinB wasn't on the Callisto. "I was exposed to anaesthesine vapor," Brie said as Bkj set to work on bandaging her arm. "Is that going to..."
"How long was your exposure?" Bkj asked without looking up from what she was doing.
"No more than five centons," Brie told her.
"Then it shouldn't be a problem. Anaesthesine vapor wouldn't harm the fetus unless it had been steady, for at least a centar."
"Can we not say 'fetus'?" Brie asked. "The sooner I get my mind around the word 'baby', the better."
"Fair enough." They talked for several centons, Brie asking questions and Bkj giving instructions. Skyler stood silently at Brie's side.
"So just keep doing things the way you've been doing them," Bkj said at last. "Drink plenty of water, but for now don't force eating. Get some sleep. I won't put you on light duty, yet, but no crazy missions. It's not just yourself that you have to think about anymore."
"I'm stepping down from Gold Squadron," Brie said. "So that won't be a problem."
"Oh," Doc said, surprised for a third time. "I guess we're done, but I want to take another look at that arm in two cycles."
"Commander Apollo wants to see me on the Galactica," Brie replied, "but if I'm not back I'll have someone there check it out." She and Skyler walked towards the door.
"Brie," Doc called after them, "I'm here if you need anything."
"I know." Silently, Brie and Skyler left. "Walk me back to my quarters?" she asked him, already knowing the answer.

Few words were said on the way to Brie's quarters. There was no need for them. Brie keyed in her code and entered, knowing that Skyler wouldn't leave until he was sure that she would be all right. "Make yourself comfortable," she said, pointing towards her sofa. "There's something that I need to take care of." Skyler sat down and Brie sent her letter of resignation from Gold Squadron, accompanied by her request to transfer to the Callisto Training Academy. She made herself a cup of herbal tea. "Can I get you anything?" she asked her best friend in the entire fleet. Skyler shook his head. "Okay. I'm just going to change real quick," she informed him. She opened her bedroom door then looked back. "You know, the irony of the situation hasn't escaped me." She closed her door behind her, sure that Skyler knew exactly what she meant.

"You know, the irony of the situation hasn't escaped me." She closed her door behind her; sure that Skyler knew exactly what she meant.
Escape…. It was the one thought he wished would escape him. He pushed it as far back in his mind as it could go, but it was still right there. Slapping him in the back of the head, letting him know it was there. He caught himself popping his knuckles, a nervous habit he hated. He closed his right hand into a fist, hearing the pop of each knuckle on last time, and then released it. He looked around Brie’s quarters for a micron. Since she shared quarters with Amy, she would be allowed to stay, well, until she moved in with JustinB that is. How long before that happened he didn’t know. Of course he has standard officer’s quarters, probably a single billet, which meant that they would need a double billet for a couple, with room for a baby… she kept getting farther and farther away. From just down the corridor in the Gold Squadron Area, all the way over to Black Squadron’s married couple quarters…. Or even worse, the Academy Billets. Not that it mattered; she was with child, JustinB’s child. You can’t get much farther away than that…..

Brie came back out, wearing sweat pants and a t-shirt. "These were Trula's," she said, grabbing her tea. "Boleman gave me all of her old clothes. How's that for poetic justice?" She sat down on the sofa and pulled her legs up tight against her body. "If I remember correctly, sitting like this helped with the morning sickness when I was carrying Amy. I threw up for four solid sectars. Frack, it's been a long time." Brie took a sip of her tea. She purposely didn't look at Skyler. "JustinB is a good guy," she said at last. "You'd like him, under different circumstances of course. Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to give him a chance." She took another sip. "But I've been doing some thinking. Things have been crazy for us, and we're no where near ready for this type of commitment. I think my child would be happier spending time with two parents who aren't trying to fake things because of circumstances than living in resentment. I love JustinB, I really do, but not enough to suddenly become a happy little family. So I'm going to tell him that we need some time apart." She glanced up at Skyler, who was staring at the floor. "Plus things are more complicated because I realized tonight that I'm also in love with you. I have been for a long time, it's just that tonight is the first time I can really admit it, because the professional barrier is being removed. Amy once asked me if it's possible to be in love with two men at once. I now know where she gets it from."
