Continued from "The Prisoner Transfer".
**
Brie heard someone calling her name. She looked and was pleasantly surprised to see Skyler. She headed in his direction. "I'm fine," she said immediately, seeing the worried look on his face. "Trula's become a worse shot in confinement. The anaesthesine vapor didn't help things any, but I've been through a lot worse than this. And don't worry, I'm going to see a doctor. Besides a few bumps and bruises Brik and Janey are both fine. What are you doing over here? What's up with the other shuttle?"
"Logan has things under control," Skyler replied. "So I thought I'd see what was happening with your group, especially since your shuttle lost communications."
Glancing around to make sure that no one else could hear, Brie lowered her voice. "Are you heading back to the Callisto? And if so, can I bum a ride? I'd rather see Doc Bkj than some unknown med tech, especially since every time I turn around I find another one of Pierce's followers."
"Let's go," Skyler quickly replied, Brie didn't have to ask him twice.
"I'll meet you there in five centons." She went back into the shuttle, told Brik and Janey what she was going to do, placed Brik in charge, and went to meet Skyler at his viper, Trula's laughter echoing in her head.

A viper was made as a one-person ship, but there was enough room behind the pilot's seat that someone could tag along without being too uncomfortable. Brie had ridden there before, the last time she didn't even remember. She had passed out on the Agro Ship and JustinB had flown her back to the Callisto. She wasn't now sure where JustinB or Amy were, had they stayed with the shuttle, or had they left when the tow showed up? She would know soon enough.
As Skyler launched his viper, Brie watched the Prison Barge fade from view. Another mission from Hades was over. The one convicted of her husband's murder was where she belonged. Brie suddenly felt overcome with grief, she missed Turner more than ever. She also longed to spend time with JustinB. And riding with Skyler, knowing his feelings her...she felt so torn. The emotional pain was far worse than the pain in her arm.

Skyler was as easy as he could be taking off. He had used the least amount of power needed to achieve lift off. Not being spat into space by the Callisto’s rail launch system meant the ride was a little easier, but for a wounded Warrior, not that much easier. Once out into the black, he adjusted his course heading and checked his scanners. He wanted to ask Brie about Justin, but didn’t want to intrude into places he shouldn’t be. His gut and his heart told him it was true. If it made her happy, then by the Lords it made him happy.
“Welcome to Skyler Air Lines. We have achieved our cruising altitude and at our current speed and course will arrive at our designation on schedule. You will notice the exit point here and here.” Skyler made a mock motion with his hand, imitating the hostess on the Civilian Shuttle Flights. “In case of an emergency you will maintain your seat until directed by the Captain to exit the vehicle. Sadly there will be no in flight movie, but we do have some snacks” Skyler popped open a storage bin beside his seat and pulled out a box of Tag-a-Long Mushies, he had picked up before the mission. He offered the box to Brie…..

"I'd better not," Brie said, turning down the Tag Alongs. She appreciated his joking around, she knew he was trying to help left her spirits after an extremely grueling mission. "My stomach isn't quite right. But if you have some water..."
Without being asked twice, Skyler handed her a bottle. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Brie replied before taking a sip. "It's just that..." She paused. Skyler was just about the best friend that she had ever had. He had helped her through the night she finally accepted Turner's death, he had sat by her countless times when she was in sick bay, he would do just about anything for her. He also knew her better than anyone. Even though he hadn't said anything, Brie was fairly certain that Skyler had figured out that she was JustinB's "mystery woman". He wouldn't judge if she told him what she was thought was going on, just offer support, no matter how badly it hurt him. And if she was right she couldn't keep it from him forever. "It's just that I think......I think I might be pregnant."

Skyler took a micron, if that long, to let it sink in. He had been expecting to hear about Justin... not a possible Justin Jr. He eased the throttle down, that damn anaesthesine vapor always did a number on her. What would it do to 'her' unborn child. He also double checked and confirmed his communicator wasn't transmitting....
"Brie, you know how I feel for you. I want you to know that your happiness is my happiness. I am glad you trust me as much as you do, and that you trust me so much you would tell me this. I always have been and always will be here for you, always." He knew that she would need him now more than ever. Well, she had Justin too, but still, she would need other people to lean on. "Now lets get you to Doc ASAP so she can clear up this vapor felgercarb. I got one special request though... I call first dibs on Godfather.... and Uncle..."

"Let's first find out if I am or not," Brie said. She broke a small grin. "Although if you want I'll ask Amy to call you 'Uncle Skyler'." She took a big gulp of water and swallowed it slowly. "I wanted to tell you about JustinB and me. But then when we talked before the briefing, I couldn't do it. I didn't want to hurt you. Frack, Skyler, that's the last thing that I ever wanted. And now, here I am, asking you to stay by my side as I find out..." She drank some more water. "I'm sorry for using you like this."

"I am not going to lie to you Brie, I love you with all my heart and soul, but I know I can not bring you the happiness you deserve and need. We have shared so much, been there for each other so many times, and I am there for you now. You are not using me, and I don't feel used at all. You make me feel like I am apart of something bigger than being a Warrior in the Colonial Fleets. I have something I can hardly remember, family. Maybe thats why I love you so much, you are like the sister I never had.... but a hot step sister." he added trying to lighten the mood some. "I would lie if I said it didn't hurt, but my joy for you eases the pain alot. You have said it yourself, I am a Warrior first and foremost. Thats my lot in life, and one I am proud of. I will stay by your side no matter what, you have my word, as a Warrior and a Friend...." cracking a slight smile.... "I also don't think Amy would go for the Uncle bit, besides, if she marries Charybdis, that would make him my nephew, I don't think I could handle that...."

"I also don't think Amy would go for the Uncle bit, besides, if she marries Charybdis, that would make him my nephew, I don't think I could handle that...."
"Oh, frack, that would make him my son-in-law..." Brie smiled before taking another sip of water. She felt so comfortable with Skyler, and was relieved that things were out in the open. She also suffered a slight twinge of guilt, she was glad that it was Skyler she was with and not JustinB. If her suspicions were correct she had no idea how JustinB would react. "Do you have any idea how special you are?" Brie asked at last. "Don't answer that, it's a rhetorical question. It's just that I know what you mean about family, Skyler, because I think of us that way too. Of course that would make you Amy's uncle again. And if Doc Bkj confirms what I'm pretty sure is true, well, let's see how hot you think your step sister is nine sectars from now." She took one final gulp of water, finishing the bottle. "The thing is, you're the one I will always wonder about, what it would have been like. If the circumstances were different we would have been great together." She paused for a micron. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that."

"Brie, never say your sorry, not to me. Don't ever be sorry. Yes, we would have been great together, and for you I would have given up everything..." Skyler paused for a micron and his mouth formed the words "and still would". With her life taking this new direction and her happiness reaching new levels, he didn't want to make her feel guilty over her choice by actually saying it. "And yes, in Nine Sectars you will still be hot...."

"You're full of felgercarb, and no, you wouldn't have," Brie said quietly. "If you had given everything up for me, then you wouldn't be the man that I know you are. And neither of us would have been happy with that. That's why things are the way they are." Brie sighed. "Happy. What a word. Life is so ironic sometimes. Amy was conceived in anger, hatred and violence, but I was so happy when I found out that she was coming. Something good, rising out of the flames. But now, with this possible little one," she unintentionally ran her hand across her stomach, "conceived in the traditional way...when I first started to suspect that my nausea wasn't just because of the anaesthesine vapor, do you know what my first thought was? 'Frack, if I'm pregnant, I'll have to give up coffee.' So much for maternal instinct." She paused. "I'll admit it, Skyler. I'm scared. That's something I don't like being." The Callisto started to take form in the distance. "Good, we're almost there. Almost home. Promise me you won't leave my side unless I say to."
